If you are building your identity on who you are as God’s child; if you are building your relationship with the One who will never leave you nor forsake you; if you are building your identity as the child of the Almighty God who brings princes to naught, who reduces the rulers to nothing – then the next time someone tries to criticize you, intimidate you, or oppose you – you will not cower nor crumble, but you’ll stand confidently because you will know Him who is with you and for you.

You may not think that your story of faith in Jesus Christ is all that significant. But during this pandemic, God may use your faithfulness, your hope, or your love to spread the gospel to a neighbor. So let me ask you: Are you ready to tell your story? When you believe that God’s grace can cover any sin, then you can be truly free. For there is no sin you have committed that is more powerful than God’s grace. Here’s the reality: If there is no sin a person commits before salvation too great for Jesus’ death to cover, then there is no sin you commit after salvation that is too great for God to cover. And Jesus made this possible. Jesus made you right with God and keeps you right with God by grace – so you can find grace whenever you need it!

God wants you FREE of fear so that you’ll LIVE with confidence. He doesn’t want anything holding you back from living out the good news. That’s what fear does. Fear keeps you from living the life God intends for you to live. Fear makes you hide. Fear causes you not to trust. Fear is connected with punishment, not acceptance. And if you still fear the judgment of God, then you do not yet truly know the God of love.

Now, don’t get me wrong, Jacob was not a model citizen; he has spent most of his life looking out for number one. But today Jacob is at a crossroads. He’s come to the place where he’s had enough of Uncle Laban’s tricks. He’s come to the place where he’s tired of Laban’s games. It’s time to put up or shut up. Jacob’s taken it from Laban long enough. For today he’s going to step up and be the man God’s called him to be, and we’re going to see just what got into Jacob that gave him the confidence to stand up to Laban.
